In the very first seconds I often know if I am in the flow and if this drawing or painting is going to turn out well. There are times when this does not happen and nothing really good wants to develop no matter how hard I try and the more dogged I get the worst the results... Yet there is often still another chance: if I scrape off the first thick paint layer, if I lose the pressure of expectation and tell myself “oh well it didn't work out that's fine, now we can start anew”: in this relaxed state of mind or mood the work flow might pick up once again and the result is better.
